"Diet coke is poison"

The following article is from a Jewish holistic health website and is really not all that surprising. I admit I was hoping that the aspartame scare would prove not to be true since it is in so many of today's products, but this will definitely make me think twice about eating anything with the "a word" in the list of ingredients. (Enlarged print in the following article is my personal added emphasis in order to draw attention to particularly shocking facts.)

DIET COKE AND ASPARTAME

The photo of a crumpled can of Diet Coke told the story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Coke's hometown paper. Fitting, poetic, just, but tragic for the company once rated "The Most Admired Business in the World". Today Coke wouldn't even make the list. Sales are down, profits collapsing, and 6,000 employees soon will be gone. To make room for 6,000 defense attorneys? The tragedy is stupendously larger than 6,000 jobs; it affects hundreds of millions of unwarned, innocent, afflicted consumers across the broad face of planet earth.
This crisis can't be solved by belt tightening, greater efficiency, more advertising, etc. It's so bad Coke can't say the word; to pronounce it will bring instant cataclysm. That word is aspartame, and their only recourse is denial, denial, denial, though every ad and commercial builds higher the scaffold upon which Coke shall surely hang.

Reality is in that twisted Diet coke can. It's poison. It's killing the unborn, raining tumors and seizures on the population, destroying children, incapacitating workers, mimicking MS, erasing memory and blinding. Inexorably Diet Coke visits a plague of 92 symptoms listed by our FDA on a secret report they'll never show which names diet soda as the first source of aspartame disease. And yes, Death was one of the 92.

Diet Coke is poison. And it's addictive, some victims drink several liters a day and keep it on their nightstands. If Coke changes the formula to remove aspartame the world will heal and the surge of hatred and vengeance by the disabled and bereaved shall certainly destroy Coca Cola.

The poison in Diet Coke is aspartame.

As a member of the National Soft Drink Association Coke opposed FDA approval of aspartame for beverages. their objections, running to several pages published in the

Congressional Record of 5/7/85, said aspartame is uniquely and inherently unstable and breaks down in the can. It decomposes into formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, formic acid, diketopiperazine and other toxins. In a study on 7 monkeys 5 had grand mal seizures and one died, a casualty rate of 86%.

Coke knew; and knowing, broke their good faith contract with customers, a breach exhibited by the recent plot to program vending machines to raise the price with the temperature. Dissatisfied with selling flavored sugar water plus phosphoric acid, they switched to pushing an addictive formula called "Diet". Addictive substances multiply markets, so Diet Coke soared off the sales charts, spreading obesity in its flight.

We're fatter because aspartame suppresses seratonin and makes us crave carbohydrates.

So why is aspartame/NutraSweet/Equal/Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi/etc on the market and in thousands of foods? Can you say CORRUPTION? One FDA Commissioner and one acting Commissioner have changed sides to work in the NutraSweet industry, plus 6 underlings and two federal attorneys assigned to prosecute NutraSweet for submitting fraudulent tests to get it approved. "It's like a script for Abbott & Costello." lamented an honest FDA scientist writing to Senator Metzenbaum. It works like this: "Approve our poison, and when you stop being a bureaucrat we'll make you a plutocrat! After its licensed we'll pay off the American Dietetics, the American Diabetes Association, the AMA and anyone we need who's for sale."

The jig's up! Worldwide consumer action has exposed aspartame, and millions have kicked the habit. Coke's profits are down 37% and for a year Monsanto's been trying to sell The NutraSweet Company. Finally they sold NSC, producer of the phenylalanine in NutraSweet for $125 million. Now Monsanto faces a $71 million lawsuit for exaggerating profits. Monsanto stock is in the toilet, but they may have found a buyer in the Swiss firm Pharmacia-Upjohn. P.U. for short! The deal won't finalize for a year. the plans are to ditch the Monsanto name as its stench is unendurable. CEO Bob Shapiro may soon be history, like Doug Ivester of Coke who just resigned. Will the last one out please turn out the lights!

Sam's fooling himself

I truly believe that spirituality and healthy living are connected. Our whole being is affected by our moods and energy levels, which can be influenced by our nutrition. Why not influence our bodies for the good?

I don't email large companies to patronize them; I offer my hope that they will move in healthier directions for the sake of my family and for an entire nation that is battling obesity even in children. We can't continue blindly eating. We must question where it came from, how it was cultivated, were chemicals used in growth, were chemicals injected, were natural ingredients replaced with manufactured ones and labeled light?
Here is a recent email I sent to Sam's Club. After reading my email, I will explain why these things are important to me, and then you can read Sam's response to me.

Customer Message: I am a new member of Sam's club in Roswell, NM. I have shopped once and found a few things I was interested in buying from this store. I was mostly disappointed with how few healthy options were offered. The world is moving in a healthier direction and it is for the best. Please offer more organic options and check ingredients for high fructose corn syrup. I was really looking forward to buying meat from Sam's, but you do not offer any options in poultry that include free roaming, air chilled chicken or at least all natural. We were very excited to join Sam's club, but we will not renew next year if we do not see healthy changes for the better. Thank you.

Now that we live in a small town, Sam's shopping was an exciting Christmas  gift for us to receive so we can save a few bucks in comparison to our pricey small town options. We drove a little over an hour to the nearest Sam's, got our picture cards made, and started shopping! As we went up and down the isles, I saw a lot of things I used to buy, but have stopped purchasing because of the long lists of artificial ingredients.
*If you are comparing two similar products and scanning two lists of ingredients, when in doubt, choose the smaller list.
*Avoid high fructose corn syrup and aspartame like the palgue.
*Quick meat lesson: 1.) Many cows and chickens spend their entire life standing in one spot, squished in a windowless building with hundreds of other cows or chickens. Not only is this a horrible life, these poor animals are constantly producing the "fight or flight" hormone in their bodies without the ability to fight or fly which is stressful. Those hormones do not disappear when they are butchered, they are eaten by you if you buy the cheapest beef or poultry options. What to do you think happens to our bodies if we consume these stressful hormones? 2.) Chicken has two popular options of being preserved. It can be air-chilled, which is exactly what it sounds like. The chicken is immediately cooled for freshness; this is the option you want. Look for air-chilled when you purchase chicken. The other option is for the chicken to be dunked in water. This makes the bird expand so you appear to have more meat. Besides the dirty optical illusion, the water lessens the flavor of the meat so the chicken is then injected with a salt solution that the packages cleverly refer to as "broth". (If you live near me, Thrifty Way and Mario's are the only places in town that offer air-chilled chicken.)
*Be very careful when buying frozen, prepared foods. Check ingredients and nutritions facts, especially for fat and salt content.

Now see Sam's response.

Kristyn:

Thank you for contacting Sam's Club regarding your concern. Sam's Club offers a variety of healthy food options including tuna, MM canned chicken breast, and our healthier light chicken and beef progresso soup.  We appreciate your business and thank you for shopping with Sam's.

Regards,

Senecca
Sam's Club Member Services

(The tuna she is referring to is albacore- the worst tuna you can eat because it has the highest concentration of mercury. From this tuna-lover, stay away from albacore and always make sure the fish is packaged in water, not oil.)

The more customer feedback companies receive, the more information they can put back into ordering products for their shelves. However, in this case, I feel like my healthy requests fell on deaf ears (or eyes rather). Senecca is correct; there are three products Sam's sells that may borderline on the healthy side. What I can't believe is that Sam's Club Member Services finds "three" an acceptable number of healthy options to offer their shoppers.

Saving a few dollars is not important enough for me to feed my family food I do not approve of.

Holy Moly! Kraft, you must be kidding!

I recently contacted a few of my past favorite companies through their "Contact us" section on their websites. I was not rude or tacky, but I informed them that we have eliminated high fructose corn syrup from our family diet and which means I have stopped purchasing products like Yoplait light yogurt, Kellogs Nutrigrain bars, Honey Maid graham crackers, V8 Splash, etc. My purpose in contacting these major companies was to be a voice for natural in hopes that other people may do the same, followed by changes in processed foods for the better health of the overall consumer. That being said, each company wrote me back with a similar gist: appreciative of my feed back but no immediate plans of changing their recipes. Still, I was a little surprised at the response from Nabisco, Kraft. Feel free to read for yourself below. The enlarged print was my doing to draw attention to the statement by the company.

Thank You for Contacting Us!
Hi Kristyn,
Thank you for visiting http://www.nabiscoworld.com.
Our consumers' safety and health are our number one priority, and we would not allow ingredients into our products that we believe would not be safe for consumption.
Experts agree that there are no nutritional differences among regular sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and the body uses all types of sugar in the same way.
We use high fructose corn syrup because of its stability, consistency and functionality, as well as its cost.
Kraft offers consumers a wide range of products to suit consumers' needs -- some contain sugar, others high fructose corn syrup or non-nutritive sweeteners, such as Aspartame - and these are clearly listed on the product's list of ingredients for consumers' convenience.
